In a 4 to 3 ruling today, the California Supreme Court has ruled that banning same sex marriages is unconstitutional. The approximately 146 page opinion, written by the Chief Justice, states that marriage is a basic and fundamental right for all persons regardless of whether they are opposite or same sex couples. The fact that the state has provided legal protections for same sex couples in the form of Domestic Partnerships is NOT enough and the state must allow same sex couples to get married.
As of the latest news report I have seen, it appears as though we will be able to get our marriage license and get married in 30 days.
Unfortunately, the battle is still not over. Fundamentalist right-wingers have already launched a campaign to put an anti-gay marriage constitutional amendment onto the ballot in November, although we have yet to learn if they have actually achieved the necessary number of valid signatures on their petitions.
I have to believe, however, that once we are able to get married in 30 days the general public is going to see by the November election that marriage in the state is not going to "fall apart" and will vote against any stupid amendment initiative that might show up.
More news later once they finish analyzing all the details in that huge opinion that came out of the court and we find out what exactly it means.

California Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban 6 minutes ago
The California Supreme Court has overturned a gay marriage ban in a ruling that would make the nation's largest state the second one to allow gay and lesbian weddings.
The justices' 4-3 decision Thursday says domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage. Chief Justice Ron George wrote the opinion.
The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco's monthlong same-sex wedding march.
The case before the court involved a series of lawsuits seeking to overturn a voter-approved law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
With the ruling, California could become the second state after Massachusetts where gay and lesbian residents can marry.
"What happens in California, either way, will have a huge impact around the nation. It will set the tone," said Geoffrey Kors, executive director of the gay rights group Equality California.
California already offers same-sex couples who register as domestic partners the same legal rights and responsibilities as married spouses, including the right to divorce and to sue for child support. It's therefore unclear what additional relief state lawmakers could offer short of marriage if the court renders the existing ban unconstitutional.
A coalition of religious and social conservative groups is attempting to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine California's current laws banning gay marriage in the state constitution.
The Secretary of State is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signature to qualify the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states.

Remember me saying yesterday that my moods hadn't been messed up too badly. Yeah...that stopped being true at some point last night and right now I'm going from calm to cranky to sobbing and back between the three with no warning and no real triggers.
This sucks. Very badly. I have little desire to do anything other than curl up in a little ball and cry in the corner, especially because T is going to be at ACen this weekend. I'll call and text her, but I'll still be lonely on top of everything else I'm feeling.
And making things worse is that I woke up in a solid block of pain that extends from under my chin and the base of my skull to the base of my ribcage. Not my arms, though my shoulders are involved, just a mass of torso ache that won't go away. What the fuck?

I love working out. I love pushing my limits and working with weights up to 35 kg like a mad woman and I love how it strains my muscles. I'm not kidding, and I'm actually typing this with a dazed grin on my face. @_@ ♥
And I'm so hooked on running when it comes to striding with the cardio crossramp machine - while listening to Three Days Grace! *_* Paradise. Nothing like exercising with your favourite upbeat dance or rock music. It's probably why I love DDR, too.
Ugh, 2 more portraits to finish. My classmates and I are paying the price for procrastinating, but most of us don't do this, usually. It's just... well, term break, come on. x_x Meeeh. Of course we'd want a break. Anyway, enough with the excuses, lol. I'll finish them tonight, definitely.
I'm so fucking exhausted! :O Man, I need to get laid.

Got up and took my meds this morning...by the time I was supposed to leave, I felt too out of it to want anything other than more sleep. So that's exactly what I did, went back to bed. At least the stupid Prednisone isn't making me as moody as I feared it might, I'm simply a million kinds of out of it and can't figure out why I'm lightheaded even though I just ate a bunch of food. A little shaky, too, but that seems to be getting better than it was minutes ago.
I refuse to let the world start to spin around me, I will take a nap once the next round of Benedryl gets into my system. I hate these fucking pills.

Yeah I used some of my school money but I got it, so now I have all three games. *joy* My friend Jamie wants to watch me play it so we are going to take over one of the TV rooms at school.
